![]() You can immediately prove that you are literally 3000 times better than someone else if you state that you play Melee. Fox – The best character in Melee, the hyper-technical mid-tier from Project: M, or God with lasers and a Shine. For example, you have to play a completely different neutral game against Fox because of his lasers that force you to approach into his defender’s advantage, and you have to completely change how you approach defending because Shine effectively makes all of his options safe and converts into literally everything! Value. Over-centralizing characteristics are those that warp the game to a state where the entire matchup is being played to compensate for that move or aspect. How did this happen? Well, since we’re here I’ll just say Shine and Dash Dancing. Over-centralizing – Wow, look at this we’re back at Fox again.Jank – Something so absolutely putrid and disgusting that you can’t help but enjoy it, like a greasy Greek burger drowned in ketchup and A1 sauce.Jank – A generalized term for nuisance strategy that you don’t feel like dealing with without a few shots of whiskey.Skill – An irrelevant fever dream that fools think they can rely on to win which ultimately amounts to very little in the face of almighty Jank. But Fox is fast so he must be skillful, right? Technical gameplay should really refer to a style of play or a character that forces precision and quick adaptation to a scenario that demands full control of the character from the player (Lucario!). ![]() In reality, Fox is just a normal character with a shine who forces you to do standard things a little bit faster (he can do extremely difficult things, but virtually all of them are unnecessary and borderline useless). That’s right kids, doing Fox tech doesn’t make you good nor does it make Fox complicated. Keep something straight, being technical is not the same thing as being skillful. Technical – Have you ever watched a video of a Fox player utterly destroying their controller multi-shining like they’re trying to stave off the 20XX video game apocalypse? Technical gameplay involves playing a character that forces you to press buttons quickly, precision be damned.Granted, while Zelda in 3.02 was merely a vastly overrated mid-tier nuisance of a character, this technique still technically made the character “broken.” This technically broke the game because it allowed her to bypass neutral to some extent by teleporting to wherever she wanted to be when most other characters had to employ some kind of traditional movement. This allowed her to wavedash out of her up B and effectively teleport around the stage. Example? Zelda in 3.02 (it was the best of Smash it was the worst of Smash…) had a technique called Teledashing. The term actually refers to something that breaks standard gameplay or deviates significantly from the design parameters of the rest of the game. In actuality, a strategy doesn’t have to be good to be game breaking. Broken is used at the lowest level of gaming discourse to describe a strategy that is repeatedly winning against you. Broken – I already mentioned this word. This post is made to give you a comprehensive list (that I will probably add to when it suits my whimsy) of simple words or phrases that you can throw into your posts to mask your boundless ignorance. Have you ever talked about a person or a group of people being marginalized without actually knowing what marginalization is? Have you perhaps described a character or strategy in a game as “broken” simply because your friend keeps beating you with him? If so, you’ve already utilized these rhetorical blessings. Buzz words, as defined in the sticky topic above, are the embodiment of this concept. There’s a reason why pseudo-intellectualism is so popular among circles such as Tumblr because it allows people with little to no expertise to feign enlightenment just long enough to be make their arguments seem legitimate. But never fear buzz words have come to your aid! Just note that the terminology used in this post is going to be a tad more esoteric and potentially impenetrable to newer players than my other posts, but I really needed to flex my sarcasm muscles this time and I’ve been planning this for a while. However, it’s quite common that utilizing such mediums of communication without proper initiation can lead to you getting bombarded with hatred because you haven’t yet gone through the prerequisite 5-year course on how to be a gaming intellectual. If you’ve ever been new to a community, like say for example the competitive Smash scene, you might have had the insatiable urge to jump right into the comments section of your favorite youtube video and speak your mind about your observations of the game, a character, or anything else that you have an opinion on.
